Guitalele strap DIY

Well talking bout music
I recently picked up the acoustic guitar :)
I have a Yamaha C40M acoustic with me I bought five years ago
but I couldn't really self learn at that time so they guitar was just left there.
Only recently I started to get a hang with it *since I have such a long and boring holiday
I started to love it! :D
Actually I pretty much regretted not learning music well.
When I was young my mum brought me to Piano classes but soon later I gave up.

And then I got myself a Yamaha GL-1 !!!! Its called a Guitalele
What is a guitalele??
Its actually hybrid of an ukulele and guitar.

My Yamaha C40M and GL-1

Why I decided on the guitalele and not the ukulele?
firstly I did not want to learn up the fingerings of the ukulele yet at that time
I was looking for a travelling guitar coz I will be going back to somewhere I temporary reside for my studies, with a lot of beaches and good sun! * bringing the big acoustic around wont be easy!

More on why I chose the guitalele check out this review which is GOOD! Must watch!!

Well the guitalele sounds exactly like the guitar with capo on 5th fret.
I have even read a review that a metal guitarist actually LOVES this new toy. :)
And now so do I. :D  *of coz bought it after thorough research :P

And soon after I wanted to get it a strap coz its abit small and sometimes I had to bend alot and its less pleasant long term.

And so I went on to search again. I target on straps that they use on Ukuleles coz its around the same size. And typical ukulele straps look like this, which looks like normal guitar strap

Leather Strap from Bushman
OR this

Strap from Etsy $20

which i less prefer.

Then I went to research on price. I wasnt willing to really pay for one. Coz in my country, choices are limited and also not many stores that I am accessible do sell straps for ukuleles. And I dont feel like getting one online.

Some people even use Madolin straps. In the reviews I read most did not agree with using a guitar strap coz it weighs more that the ukulele itself. Its pointless.
Some even do DIY with normal thread like this! D:

Well I won't want to do it this way.

HERE STARTS MY DIY :) SORRY FOR ALL THE CRAP UP THERE

okay so I went to get my guitalele a nut at the bottom so that I can make a strap like a normal guitar. I only made one on the bottom then go to Daiso, a RM5 Japanese Store (which is awesome!) to get a strap from the handicraft section

I like the colours and you surely won't find straps like these in stores!! *love it much!!

First get the strap! You don't have to buy one actually. You can get a strap from an old luggage or bag!

Next get a set of adjustable bukcles! I took mine from an old bag, and get the one with roughly the suitable width!

this is the adjustable buckle from me old bag

look closely and see how it is sewn originally
then remove it from old bag!! D: bye bye old bag

next take new strap and fold over like this through the buckle.
sew the edge of the strap so it stays like this!

next get the buckle tat looks like this!
*it comes in a set. means if u use the first buckle, this is a must have

pass the 2nd buckle through the strap
*sorry for unclear pic!

then bring the strap up! pass it over the first buckle

like this!

make a hole through the strap at the end that is free. then pass through a sturdy string!
some people asked me to use a shoe lace.
shoe lace too mainstream so I used a price tag thread from Esprit! LOL
talk about REUSING. I am Queen.

The end product!! :D It looks lovely *i like!
now its adjustable!!

Now for the finishing touches.

remember the 2nd buckle? i put it through another Esprit price tag thread and tie it to the nut at the bottom!

tie the other end to the head stock of the guitalele!
If you see clearly I sewed the edges of the hole so that it does not continue to break open
due to friction

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!!

of course you can modify certain things and make it your own way!

So overall cost for this DIY: RM5 or less than USD 2
and an old bag

I'm a happy girl!! :D

Happy DIY-ing!!

yeah due too over boredom. dang.

Ramadhan Feverrrr

Well its the Hari Raya Fever recently
What do I mean by Hari Raya?
Well to all non-Muslims its actually the Malay New Year! (Hari Raya as in New Year in Malay)
So. its the time of the year again where there are Ramadhan Feasts.
One month before the Hari Raya is actually a period compulsary for all Muslims to fast, as in, not eat.
They have a very early breakfast then fast until nearly 7+pm then they break fast :)
So there will be this Ramadhan feast or bazaar where people sell awesome malay cuisine and goodies for Raya preparation :)
Another thing about Raya that comes into my mind is the TRAFFIC JAM fts

Why is the jam so terrible:
1. Coz its a week long school holidays, everybody brings their family for holiday
2. All the Malays go back to their hometowns (Balik Kampung) for Raya
3. Well accidents do occur on highways when theres a lot of traffic and when drivers doze off :/

So I saw this picture which illustrates the jam on a HIGHWAY
Imagine that.

Of course theres also the nice part about Raya. The SALES :D
Well the sales are actually for Raya preparation, but we non-muslims also have a chance to bag some nice cheap stuffs :)

And here is a very nice video on Hari Raya!! Check out the video HERE by U Mobile!! :)

And so.. HAPPY RAYA to my MUSLIM friends!!!
Happy holidays to my non-muslim friends!!
Be safe on the road always. <3

UNESCO Penang Heritage Strollaround :)

Heya peeps!
Been nearly 6 month I haven't have an update huh omg
Yeah so imma start spamming some posts before I get back to uni gahhh
Alrite since the holiday started I went around looking for jobs and yeah came back empty handed fts
Well I am well qualified for some temporary jobs but oh well my holiday is only 2.5 month *palmface
FTS who would wana hire someone who works for like, 2 months??
so now I have NO INCOME!
poor die me.
well anyway had a really nice holiday doing nothing
well well wellll
a great respect and honour for the HOLIDAY :D
of course spent some precious times with ma high schoolies!
then we decided to walk it out! to the Penang Heritage Sites!
It has been very famous recently, of wall drawings that brings out the culture of Penang!
And yeah so one random day, we decided to take a walk.

*most of the photos are courtesy of Gary Loke! :D

Sooooo, on da 4th of August we went for an early morning DIMSUM breakfast at Kutabali in Paya Terubong. It has been a tradition for us since lower six having tea and chit chat sessions here.

Our dimsum galore

Okay so after our breakfast we went to town, where all the sites are and we parked out cars somewhere nearby. Coz we plan to go around using the Rapid Penang! Since many of us haven't really got on one, and also because of the packed traffic in town area, we decided to walk more!
And so we went to the main bus station in Weld Quay!

Well the buses were in very good condition! There is even a coordinator or something to direct us which bus to get on just by telling them the location we were heading to! The ticket was RM1.40 for travelling distance from 0-7km, which was still acceptable. The bus even had Wifi!! OMG FTS
Of coz you can see from the phone there is also the detectable Penang Free Wfi!! CM Lim's awesome work :

They even have these nice pocket size maps when requested at the customer service counters!! So nice!!

So here now we are gona begin our journey!! Well we walk all on foot to catch a glimpse of everything. Here are the photos~~

And this is my ex schoolie Gary Loke loaning some other tourists' rented bicycle for this shot!

Well this foreigner was spotted trying to learn how to use rattan and make parts of a chair from the owner of the rattan products shop.

and this uncle plays a guitar!! i guess. It has 5 strings, same tuning like a guitar, and he uses a pick to strum! the only difference is that he does not need tabs or chords, he just needs to press on the buttons, stated with the key it plays! I would say, its the easiest guitar to learn in the whole wide world!!! LOL

And thats me! With another wall mural :D

Another beautiful spot! Chew Jetty! Its a community of people witht he surname CHEW staying in all these houses!
This place is located at Weld Quay. Along Weld Quay there are also jetties with other surnames like the Tan Jetty etc.
The community stays on a floating village!

So this is the drawing located at Chew Jetty!

And this is the fried ice mango at Chew Jetty.
How they do it:
Blend the mango-pour it on a pan, instead of frying, freezing, to -40 celsius. Walahh there you have it!
The toppings are peanuts and dried nutmeg.

A lovely reminder at Chew Jetty :)

Another trying-to-poke-her shot by my schoolie

\
Next stop! The Pinang Peranakan Mansion! This is the place where the Singaporean Drama was shot, Baba and Nyonya!
Btw thats a really handsome Baba :)  More pics see below
 The Western dining hall
This hall is used to serve close friends with western food OR Westerners.
Theres also the Eastern Dining Hall. LOL

Ignore my buddy in this pic. Just wana let u have a look of the deco in this mansion w/ solid wooden floors *i like!

This hall is where the MEN talk business. Get a deal closed etc etc. ( I have really good illustrators!)
They have a separate hall for the girls and wives to do embroidery, chit chat and play some olden games. Otherwise the women will be cooking!! Not like us blogging LOL

These olden beds are so stuffy inside!! I wonder how they sleep gahhh

And the kitchen!! These people are wealthy during those days!!
After visiting the mansion with a guide bringing us around, we got to know more about the Baba and Nyonya culture, which is very unique!
How it started: This chinese labour came down to Malaysia to work in a tin mine. While others spend their money on opium and prostitution during their free time, this guy self studied English. Sooner he became a traslator for the British. He was then sent from Taiping, Perak (where the mine was) to Penang to liase business. He then became the Kapitan (Captain) in Penang. He brought his Chinese wife down to Penang (which did not bear him any children) and sooner he got 3 other wives, which are the Nyonyas. ( The nyonyas are hokkien speaking Malays, but are not Muslims. Those days they have more freedom).

And yeah that was out Pinang Peranakan Mansion Tour!
We did not manage to see ALL the wall murals but it is indeed a very enjoyable trip :D

Update sss :)

Well its been nearly half a year since my last update
Grr time flies :)
The last post is when I first came to Sabah.
Now its already Sem II
Of course this is the time where we had to first leave home
And learn things the hard way
See the society first hand
Not to just tolerate but also sometimes learn to stand up and justify

Well we've been doing crazy things here :)
Dive, snorkel etc
Well exposure I suppose :)
Learn to really talk. Speak.
And of course meet some really amazing people here
Unexpectedly they become the most important people in your life :) besides my family

Put aside all the fun, there are also times we had to meet up to
Uni life, somehow dull and boring
Assignments, 8am classes, pop quizes, midterms, finals, presentation

And of course sometimes learn to destress :)
And also travel as much as we can
Gotta get back to work peeps. Ciao~
Update soon ;)
